I was very impressed by the large number of participants in the piano section of the ArsKosova competition, especially from Albania and Kosovo. In comparing the level of the playing this year (2008) to the level in 2005, there is a marked improvement in the technical preparation of the participants, as well as a clear development in their artistry. The Macedonian pianists stood out for their professionalism, and the young Turkish pianist Furkan, who captured the Grand Prix would be a highlight of any competition. I am again delighted by the organizational skills of Sihana Biduku and Blerim Grubi, who create an artistic atmosphere that stimulates these young talents without spoiling the spontaneity of the event. Their young assistants are remarkable in their ability to quickly deal with any small problems that might arise. I think that the ArsKosova competition is a wonderful opportunity for artistic and personal growth for the young musicians who take part in it. I myself am so inspired by its spirit and mission, so desperately needed in the Balkans, that I am initiating a similar event in Sofia in 2010
